Vidalia Porchfest is almost here and I want to…

What is PorchFest you ask?

Years ago in Ithaca, New York, neighbors Lesley Greene and Gretchen Hildreth had an idea: What if we had an afternoon when porches all over the neighborhood became stages and everyone just meandered from yard to yard, listening, hanging out, and connecting/reconnecting with their neighbors?

Porchfest, the ultimate grassroots music festival, was born! 100% resident owned and operated, it’s been going and growing every year since. And in that time, other neighborhoods all around the country have taken the model and run with it. The Altama Museum, along with members of the greater Vidalia community, launched their inaugural Porchfest in March 2023.

Vidalia Porchfest is an organic, walking concert that takes place on porches and in yards right in the Jackson Heights neighborhood. In the spirit of being neighborly and building community, home or business owners offer outdoor space for a group to perform, either musical, dramatic, storyteller, comedian, etc. Artisans and Makers are invited to join the Sidewalk Market on the museum grounds, and local food vendors can set up within the event district. And of course volunteers of all kinds are needed to help make this event happen. The more folks who take ownership of it, the better it will showcase the best of what our area can be. We hope you’ll join us!

It’s the final push! The Sabel Foundation has graciously offered a cash match for donations totaling up to $10,000. This will be combined with a generous donation from a private donor, a Cultural Facilities Grant in the amount of $68,000 awarded through the Georgia Council for the Arts, and organizational savings.

Help us meet our goal of $110,000—we’re so close!
